Anxiety + Depression ~ let food be thy medicine…

There is one element that can support you in healing Anxiety + Depression and that is …… food!
I invite you to ponder this thought “You are what you eat + what you think + feel…”
So its a good time to begin to take note of what you are eating, what are you thinking and how are you really feeling when you are in the grips of an anxiety attack or feeling depressed?
Are you nourishing yourself with living foods filled with minerals, life force, superfoods, vitamins, trace elements, oxygen, enzymes + hormones?  Do your thoughts nourish you with energy, inspiration, confidence, clarity? Are you connected to what you are feeling or trying to bury it?
There is no separation between the body, mind + heart and it is my belief that a lighter living diet will support the healing of all the layers of you.

I do not advocate to go hard core detox as you got enough going on at the moment!  But what I do advise is you pick one or two things you can easily + comfortably let go that will begin to lighten + brighten you from the inside out…

So what choices do you have?  You can choose to reduce or eliminate meat, dairy, white anything, processed, canned + packaged foods, cooked foods, sugar, caffeine, nicotine and alcohol.
So out of that list what didn’t push your buttons? What can’t you give up?  Generally, the thing you think you can never give up will be the very thing you do need to give up!  However, I suggest you begin with the one that didn’t push your buttons.

I chose to begin by eliminating animal products first which was easy, pasta was hard to give up as I had a huge emotional attachment to it.  Once I had stabilized and felt good (and it is amazing how different you will feel) I knew it was time to reduce my caffeine addiction!  Over the course of a year I went from 14 coffees a week to now just enjoying 1 or 2 a week;however, I know that I must only have coffee after I eat breakfast otherwise my heart races and I also made the decision to still enjoy my coffee with cows milk!  I have tried it with cashew nut  + coconut mylk and I hate it….so life still must be about pleasure!!!

The foods you eat must be able to move through the colon quickly otherwise the fats you ingest will go rancid, the carbs will ferment, the proteins will putrefy and YOU GET THE PICTURE RIGHT??

If you need to have a coffee in the morning to do ‘de business…..den you gotta baaaaad problem’!  (So i will get to this later)

When you clean your diet up and when you introduce more living fresh foods it will have a positive affect on the body, mind and heart and you may well find aches, pains and hurts fading away!  Of course I would suggest that you add in to your ‘diet’ therapies that clear the mind and soothe the heart.

Intuitive Eating
Only YOU know how strict you need to be with your diet for your health.
If your anxiety or depression has been gradually chipping away at you then you may need to do a 100% super clean living organic diet. However, if you are reasonably healthy you may enjoy a balance (75%  living/uncooked + 25% cooked foods, whole grain pasta + steamed veg.

I advocate Intuitive Eating rather than one diet over another….so I have meditated on who will be reading this post and using my intuition + kinesiology….this is what is needed to be added or removed from your diet…

Allow fresh veg to be the majority of what you eat but add more
Bok Choy, garlic, lettuces, spinach, watercress, sprouts, baby greens, chickpeas, lentils, onions, sprouted bean mix, beets, carrots, daikon radish, ginger, leeks, sweet potatoes, kelp, broccoli, celery, cucumbers, green beans + peas, squashes, zucchini, basil, cilantro, dill, parsley and tarragon.

Fruits ~ no more than 15% from fruit but add more
Apples, cherries, lemons, watermelon, berries and pineapples
